Rock N Learn Phonics DVD (Volumes 1 and 2) Review and Giveaway

Rock N’ Learn Review and Giveaway

I was given the opportunity the have my 2 older children review Rock N’ Learn Phonics DVD’s Volume 1 and Volume 2.

At first, my 7 year old, Luke, was not excited. It was “learning”. My 4 year old, Anthony, couldn’t get it into the DVD player fast enough.

Here is a quick scoop on what the DVD’s are about (from Rock N’ Learn.com)
Rock ‘N Learn Phonics DVD and audio CD programs provide an easy and fun way to learn the phonics skills that lead to reading and spelling success. Catchy songs and rhymes help students remember basic phonics rules, vowels, consonants, blends, digraphs, silent e, and much more. Delayed answers and the on-screen mouth (Phonics videos) allow learners to check their progress and use these programs independently. Our new Phonics Volume 1 and Phonics Volume 2 DVDs have been improved in two ways: much better animation and a lot more content to help students become confident readers. Students practice reading sentences and stories to apply the rules they have learned. These phonics video programs now have fun characters, sentence practice, read-along stories, and exercises to boost fluency.

Anthony is going into VPK this fall and Luke into the 2nd grade.

Luke felt that Volume 1 was more of a review for him as far as the content was concerned but Anthony couldn’t get enough. He has watched the DVD a half a dozen times since we received it on Saturday (7/24) and sings the songs any chance he gets.

Anthony especially liked the “putting it all together” section on Volume 1. The intro was a puzzle, which he loves. He is not fluent at the words but loves to try to read and putting the consonants and vowels together really interested him.

Volume 2 was a little too advanced for Anthony and still review for Luke, but he seemed more interested in Volume 2. Luke is getting into reading chapter books. Ph and Gh was a big deal for him in school last year and I was excited to see it on Volume 2. He felt more confident reading just a few paragraphs of one of his favorite books after watching Volume 2. There was actually one page in particular that had been giving him trouble and he went directly to that page and applied lessons from the DVD to help. It was amazing to watch him figure it out.
