This quote is so true

“If you do nothing unexpected, nothing unexpected happens.”
― Fay Weldon

(Thank you Realsimple.com)

How many of us feel this way? I definitely do.
But it's so true! When you do something out of the ordinary, no matter what it is, you get results. Whether it's holding the door open, help a stranger, put down the book and play with the kids, or take a walk... you always get something unexpected in return.

Sometimes because the result isn't immediate, we don't think that we've received the "payback" that we think we deserve.

My son is a perfect example.. When we first began Palm Harbor community Outreach, he said "Mom, I am doing good things and you said good things will happen because of it, but today I fell, scraped my knee, and Anthony (his little brother) hit me with a stick, how is that good?"
I had to explain to him that our good deed is not repayed that way. That our rewards don't necessarily come in an instant or that the rewards are ours.
When we donate food, there are families who reap the benefits. They get to eat. When we hold the door open for someone and they say thank you, it's warm fuzzies in your heart.
Because of his efforts and our getting the word out, friends and family have donated money and food to F.E.A.S.T. to help others. This is a "reward" because of Luke's conversations, others are helping and even more people have food to eat, even more families are fed.

Sometime this weekend, do something unexpected, not to see if it comes back, but just to do it!
Let me know what you did!

Blogmania Sponsor Spotlight: Laurel Arts

Laurel Arts is returning for the 2nd time to Blogmania!

Below is a portion of a Blog interview which the owner of Laurel Arts has permitted me to share:

I am inspired by nature, the trees, the leaves, animals , other artists, but my customers are probably my greatest source of inspiration. They will share an idea with me, and that starts the creative juices flowing. We collaborate until we come up with the perfect piece for them.

Family is important to me and two years ago I created The Family Tree Wind Chime. It is
made out of clay and is in shapes of various sized leaves, imprinted with family names, dates, power words, etc. I think it is the perfect gift for anyone, parents, grandparents, newlyweds, etc.

I was especially thrilled this past Christmas when I designed one for a family and they asked me to add to the order a separate leaf imprinted with a young lady's name on it. I put that separate leaf in a small box and tied it with a pretty bow. I was told that on Christmas morning the completed wind chime was presented to this young man's family and of course they were thrilled. He then handed the box with the separate leaf to his visiting girl friend and proposed to her. She has since added her leaf to their Family Tree Wind Chime. I felt a part of that celebration. I love hearing from customers and the stories they share. I take a lot of pride in my art, my creations. I try to create not only whimsical pieces, but functional as well.

Jean of Laurel Arts will be providing a Family Tree Wind Chime

Office Depot Print Services and Customer Service is HORRIBLE!!!

I was working on some Cub Scout certificates and wanted them to look nice, so I decided to use Office Depot's Printing Center. I have a newer store up the road, so I processed it early in the morning and wanted to pick them up later in the afternoon.

I go through the entire order and at the end it gives me a shipping cost but them gives a credit since I am wanting to pick up the 8 little $.10 cent certificates.

Once I process the order, it charges me shipping, ugh !

•I called to have the order cancelled, or at least have the shipping charges removed, as I just wanted to pick these up.
•The 1st phone call was about 20 minutes before they told me they had to send a request to have the order cancelled. Fine.
•The next day, I receive an email stating my request to cancel had been sent. Good.
•The same day, I receive a UPS tracking number. Not so Good.
•I call back, get the same run around.. A credit request has been put in. No worries.
•Two days later, I get a shipping notification. WHAT !!!???!!!
•I call again. 4th time to get this resolved. The order states it has been cancelled. There is a credit request on file. I don't need to do anything.
The charge on my account shows expired, cool!
•Guess what.. The order shows up at my door..

What's even better. With all the frustration, I had already had to revise the certificate and took it to the Office depot up the road and had it printed in less than an hour.

•I check my account again, charged!
•So now, I just spend more than 30 minutes on the phone with Office Depot. No one cares that I cancelled this the same day, no one cares that I have an email stating it was going to be cancelled. No one cares that I have a credit request number given to me on my 3rd phone call.

NOW, I have to wait 4 business hours to have someone call me to tell me when this package (thankfully I still have and did not discard) will be picked up and then once it's returned to where-ever, in 5-7 business days I should receive my credit. Should ?

I am beyond Office Depot right now. I will not shop there again. I will drive 10 minutes further to go to Staples. I will recycle my ink cartridges, purchase school and scout supplies at Staples.

Thank you for the most miserable shopping experience EVER, O.D.

ugh !

My boys turned the tv off this weekend. Thankfully Saturday Anthony was better and they played outdoors and helped us plant shrubs.
It's nice to see them not tuned in to the TV so much and running and playing as kids should.

Whew, what a weekend!

It's been a wild few days.
Anthony had a sinus infection, was put on an antibiotic, didn't work and on Thursday, came home with 100+ fever.. my poor guy :( He's on a new med, slept all day Friday and is 100% now !

I had a swollen gland under my neck and ended up at the dentist because it was affecting my gums. Mind you, I have not seen a dentist in 2.5 years. Now I'm on an antibiotic.

Luke had to miss a field trip with the scouts on Friday because we were not sure of Anthony was contagious, so we didn't want to risk anyone else's children getting this..

The weekend was spent planing shrubs along out new patio extension (it looks awesome), lawn work, and errands.

Today went by so fast!

I was supposed to host a Myer's House Party too.. but with Anthony sick, we cancelled. Hubby & I though, we tried the Strawberry Daiquiri Freeze and Shake.. YUCK! It was so much alcohol, you couldn't taste the Strawberry. The mudslide too.. But it was too much chocolate and alcohol.
I used to be able to handle liquor, apparently not anymore.. That was just nasty!

Me being silly while Hubby and I sipped really strong drinks!

All in all, if was a good but busy weekend.

Oh, and I joined Weight Watchers...  I just need to do something, you know.. I'm doing online, no meetings..

Let's see..  We have Blogmania coming

I'm a sponsor in Adventure's of 8's Halloween Giveaway Event

It's going to be a busy week.. My Monday is already full of errands, shopping, children's activities (Anthony is taking swimming lessons, yes at the end of September), Scouts, home....
My list seems to grow each hour...

I'm here, Do not fret...

I'll have some good things going soon!

We'll be in Boy Scouts of America, but first, Cub Scouts

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Boy Scouts of America for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Boy Scouts of America is a fantastic program. Now, I have never been in the program (obviously), being a girl, but my husband was a scout for a number of years.

To Be A Scout, means you are respectful, not only to others, but nature as well.

My son is not a Boy Scout, not yet at least. Luke is a Cub Scout. Scouting begins in 1st grade. This is when Luke began. He was a Tiger, then a Wolf, and now in 3rd grade, he is beginning his Bear trail. He has 2 more years in Cub Scouts and then will be a Boy Scout.

Cub Scouts meet with their Den, which is a group of boys in the same grade, within the same pack. Our Pack has amazing leaders. We have fabulous meetings. We do crafts, learn about other cultures, make instruments, and go on field trips.

Luke loves to earn belt loops, pins and patches with Scouts. You complete activities to earn belt loops and pins. These activities can range from Sports, to crafts, to learning activities. The patches are for events. He has received them for attending Tampa Bat Rays  and Clearwater Threshers Baseball games, for participating in our local parade, caroling at a local retirement facility, and for Popcorn sales.

Scouts is not all about what they can earn. Scouting is a mindset. You need to focus to do well, just as in school and in life. You make new friends and have to follow directions.

The scouts in our pack go on camping trips throughout the year and participate in hiking and canoeing. We are going to Kennedy Space Center and spending the night (in February), where we will learn about just all the amazing things NASA has done through the Space Program.

Now, scouting may be for boys, but the whole family can be involved. I am the communications representative for our Pack. I take the notes, keep our website up to date and make sure all the information about monthly meetings and activities are out to our parents. My husband helps during camp outs, crossovers, the Pinewood and Space Derbies and the summer Raingutter Regatta. My 2 year old provides all the cuddles to the parents whose babies are all grown up (and he loves the attention) and my 5 year old is taking this all in because next year, he will be a scout. Home Improvement Projects

We own our home, and have for over a decade. We are constantly doing home improvements.
There's painting, or appliances, changing the layouts of rooms, or getting new furniture. The outside is a constant with the lawn and maintenance of the shrubs and things.

In 2003, my awesome little brother created an outdoor patio for us. He framed and poured a 13' x 13' concrete slab which we enjoyed for the past 8 years. But we felt it was time to expand.

Our little corner of the world in the backyard

Last week, we finally took the leap. We added a 21' extension to our existing patio. It's SO awesome!
The ground is ready

A portion is done

Matching up to the previous porch

And the completed project

It looks amazing now and we have spread out our inherited furniture across the porch. Christopher (2) loves to ride is little trike across it and around the tables.

But are we done? Of course not.

There are shrubs to plant, citronella torches to fend off the horrible mosquito's, and some nice barrel planters to find for the porch.

Use great colors, even if your are not a Hollywood Star!

Jeannie Mai, host of the Style Network’s “How Do I Look?”, Yoplait Light spokesperson and correspondent for NBC's upcoming series "Fashion Star" gives you her take on the best looks from this year’s Emmy red carpet.  The fashion guru has also teamed up with Yoplait Light to show women how simple swaps – from fashion to food – can really make a difference in how you look and feel, and offers more swapping advice at www.Facebook.com/Yoplait.

Easy ways for anyone to get red carpet ready
o  Glam can be anything from a bold lip, a colored eyeliner, a statement necklace, or a dress that's long and flowy. When in doubt, swap it out. If you feel the need to step up your style even more for a spotlight, do so by swapping in any of the above, and don't forget shimmery skin always does the trick.  Check out www.Facebook.com/Yoplait for more swapping tips!

Best Dressed
o  Kelly Osbourne: There’s a new Sheriff of the Fashion Police. And it’s Kelly Osborn in this dress.
o  Maria Bello-Hello, Maria Bello! She sparkled like the sun in her gown, showing us how to lead with beads.
o  Sophia Vegara:  What a body hottie! She did her thang in Vera Wang. This Colombian knows how to smuggle those curves into the country.
o  Nina Dobrev: Instead of Emmys they should be handing out Nina Dobrevs in this dress. Her body was obviously poured into that Donna Karan creation.

Best hair
o  Nina Dobrev took a stunning gown and made it unbelievable with her hair, swooping it to one side to showcase her clavicle. No wonder she has so many vampires after her.

Best makeup:
o  Kate Winslet wrote the bible to best makeup in a ravishing red gown. All too often women feel the need to take the red from the look to the lips. Here she glows with pearlescent skin, flawless lined eyes, and a marigold nude lip.

Best accessories:
o  Rachel Harris rocked one of my favorite accessories, glasses. They’re an everyday stable but somehow on the red carpet it gives you that touch of edge.
o  Jane Lynch taught us a lesson on accessories. Where you’re going with a basic strapless dress, you need to finish it off with a statement necklace. I felt cheated by her bare neckline.

Best use of color:
o  Colbie Smulders showed us the light with her coral Alberta Ferretti & Neil Lane gown. She stood out in this evening’s red sea with a perfect shade of blue.
o  Alan Cumming gave us something different to look at. He showed that men can stand out on the red carpet as well by pairing a tradition top with some orange Jean Paul Gaultier pants. Nobody looked cooler.

Letter Learning - Helping the little ones with writing while teaching manners

Have you heard about Letter Learning?

I purchased a deal a few weeks ago. I chose an assortment of greeting cards for my 5 year old. The cards have pre-printed dotted words (greetings) on them and allow your child to trace the dots to create their own card.

The cards range from Happy Birthday, to Thinking of you, to get well.
It teaches them no only the value of manners but helps them with handwriting, spelling, and letter formation. You can to boost confidence and promote early literacy.
Anthony liked that he could give his friend a birthday card and write everything himself.

Letter Learning also offers math cards and more advanced cards for older kids. This is a great opportunity to stock up on birthday party invitations, Christmas greetings, and Valentine’s cards.

Luke has a couple that have blank cards so he can choose his own words. He can give them to anyone he wants! Even his teacher ☺

Right now, Mamapedia has a great deal!

I know that if my 5 year old son loves them, your kids will too!

Great Mamapedia Deals

This Halloween, let your child’s imagination take flight with a quality costume from PowerCapes. All capes, costumes, masks, and accessories are handmade from quality fabrics. Build your own custom cape, or select one of their 3,000 ready-to-ship styles. Make it personal by adding your caped crusader’s monogram. Long after the last trick or treat of the night, your child will enjoy countless hours of dress-up fun and pretend play.

Keep kids safe in parking lots—and gain priceless peace of mind—with Parking Pals. These illustrated hand magnets stick to the side of your vehicle, making it fun for kids to “high five” as they wait for you to accompany them. After a couple of learning sessions, Parking Pals will become a regular part of your parking lot routine. Choose from seven fun, colorful designs—order one for each child so everyone will have a “home base” while exiting or entering the car.

Do You Groupon?

My husband says I'm addicted, yet he never complains when we use them or how much we save. From dinners to outings with the kids. Just recently we used one for our local Surf and Turf market.. Those pork chops were AMAZING!

If you haven't tried Groupon, you should check them out. It's free to join and you get emails letting you know the deals of the day. Some of them last more than 24 hours and the really good ones don't make it 2 hours before they are gone! I have to admit, I've missed out on my share of really nice deals and have kicked myself for it.

You can purchase Groupons for gifts and with Christmas coming, these could be awesome things for family, friends, and teachers!

Are you a Disney Movie Fan?

I love Disney movies. My boys, not so much. Well, if they are boy related, then mostly. But all the great classics like 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, and even Pocahontas. They have no interest.

I've thought about trying the to make it family night with a Disney movie, but they abandon me.

If you are a Disney Fan, have you tried the Disney Movie club? I was considering joining. Yes, even though my boys aren't Disney movie fans right now, I could get to at least one of them I think.

When you sign up, you  get 4 Disney DVDs for $1.99 each, plus free shipping and handling. (Regular Club Cost per movie starts at $19.95.)

Members will receive a monthly feature detailing how many additional titles need to be purchased in order to fulfill the club agreement.

Is it worth joining? Does anyone have this membership?

Today's children's movies are not all my favorites and I want my children to experience some of the things I enjoyed as a child. No, i will not sit and force them to watch Cinderella or Snow White, although the though of singing "High Ho-High Ho- It's off to work we go" does sound, fun as they cover their ears, running for their rooms.

They love Disney in general, but I am unsure as to how they'd do if I had a classic Disney movie marathon.

Who can't resist Bambi and Thumper...

Stanley Seagull Book review

Meet a young seagull named Stanley. Follow him as he wanders far from home and tries to find his way back. Join Stanley on his journey as he learns how humans affect the balance of nature. (Book Summary)

The boys really enjoyed the book. Luke understood and grasped the concept of Stanley's adventure. Anthony was sad but then happy when Stanley returned home, and Christopher loved naming the colors and pointing out the birds. Something for everyone.

I like how the illustrations (Colleen Gedrich) were friendly to all of the age ranges in my house. The story itself (written by Cathy Mazur) allows the children to learn about different aspects of this particular bird and they can easily follow along. The concept can easily be explained to my 5 year old in a way he understands while my 8 year old can read through the book on his own.

Stanley Seagull Website  Stanley Seagull on Facebook

You can purchase the book in the Hardcover  ($16.95) or Paperback ($7.95) version, as well as for the Kindle  ($2.99), Nook ($4.95), and iPad ($4.99)

10 Things You Should Never Say to Your Kid

Have you ever said any of the things [in this article] to your child/children?
I have to admit, I am guilty of #3 lately. When all 3 of my boys just won't stop, it's seems it's the only way to get my point across that they need to cease!
Although it's not on the list, I happen to use *Whatever* to my oldrest when he gets on my nerves. especially when he has been rude earlier in the day and then asks for something later on.
Are there things you wish you could take back, when said to your kid(s)?

Hanging with Mom

Christopher and I have spent the last two days home. No errands, minimal chores, just he and I

We've played football, golf, drawn, built wonderful items with Mega Bloks, watched Little Einsteins and Max and Ruby, taken some pictures and then CJ's favorite pastime, the bath!

How I found him this morning

Mega Bloks flower bouquet for Mommy

This is his favorite ~Cheese~ face ☺

Bath Time is our favorite time! Can't forget the bubbles

Christopher and I having some cuddle time..

I love when they love to play and cuddle. Anthony and Luke are either playing toys, have headphones on, or outside with friends and Christopher tries his hardest to be a part of that. But when they are at school, I am his world.. It won't last much loner so I am going to enjoy it to it's fullest!

CJ did not like my face with the mask on..

Well, glad that's over with !

The -get the boys- routine from school is pretty much uneventful and boring.

Today was an exception. I pulled into my little part of the world, to park and wait for my scootering boys to meet me. As I got out of the car, I notice this nail next to my tire... This could have been very very bad ! That nail is a good 12" long..

Anthony had fallen on his scooter so he was a little sad.

We get home backpacks get put away, homework comes out and
Anthony freaks out and tells me that he has a crayon up his nose..
WHAT ?!?!

Low and behold, my kid had a broken tip of a green crayon up in his nasal passage way. Did he tell anyone at school? No, of course not. Did he show any signs of discomfort at school? I have no idea.

I made him blow his nose and out it flew! ugh.... He said, "I don't know how it got up there Mommy?"
Really, the tip of a green crayon just broke off & flew up your nose?

Anything interesting happen to you today?

Eyewitness Series books Flight & Predator Reviewed (Plus a giveaway)

Hubby, Luke and Anthony were the lucky recipients of my next review!

What is your "After School Routine"?

As I sit here in car line waiting to get the boys from school (it was pouring this morning so we change up the afternoon just in case), I am making a list in my head of what needs to be done today.
Normally it would be going home for snack time, homework, chores, then free time til dinner. Today we are heading right to the barber shop because my 3 handsome boys are looking a bit ragged.
Tomorrow we start back to karate after our summer hiatus.

What is your ~after school routine~ with your kids?
