3rd Birthday Party for my little man [just a tad bit late]

So at the beginning of April, my littlest turned 3, and here I am posting on the last day of the month.
Well, better late than never I guess...

We had a small party at home, just friends and family...

Our regular sitter made his cake. Her mom was bragging about her abilities and we discovered Miss M wants to go to culinary school, so she graciously created CJ's Chuggington cake, per his request..

CJ was happy to have
Brewster, Koko, and Wilson

I won't bore you with present photos but I will share more cake fun because he was just so cute!

Happy to be 3 !

My princess G and CJ blowing out all the candles!!

CJ talking to his Uncle Paul (who was at Army Drill ), but if you notice, Anthony was ready for some cake!

All in all, it was a wonderful day and everyone was gracious, polite, and happy!

My last little boy is now 3.. Where does the time go?

Then: April 2009

Now: April 2012

Allowing your children to give

Do you allow your children to give?

When there is a canned food drive at school or locally in your community? A clothing drive for the homeless or donating blankets during the winter. Do you go through your old clothing and offer it on Freecycle?

My children look for ways to give back in the community because they see me do it. They enjoy being able to recycle a toy to a child who may not have one. Or donate food, not only through our community outreach, but through other food drives in the area.

By allowing your child to give of themselves or gently used toys to those who do not have much, you are allowing them the opportunity to shine in their own way.

During the holidays we "adopted" 2 boys from my sons school. These boys families were not able to provide gifts under the tree due to their financial situation. Once I explained (the best I could to a 9 and 6 yo), I allowed them to choose the items these boys would receive. They were a little upset they could not provide the gifts in person, but were happy they could help.
At their request, we added a gift card for the grocery store. The boys wanted to make sure the family would have Christmas dinner as well.

By sharing your generous nature with your children, they in turn want to help others.

While sometimes our lives get busy and take unexpected turns [some up, many down], there are always those less fortunate and, Heaven forbid, one day, we are on that downward turn, I will know that the good nature and generosity of others, and their children, would help us.

The Replenishing Facial Cream is doctor tested and really makes your skin feel fabulous. The ingredients include: organic shea butter, golden jojoba oil, argan oil and Ceramide 3.

Sponsor Spotlight - Wee Can Too - Blogmania April 2012

The boys have always loved finger painting but I am nervous because most finger paints stain or contain toxins.
Recently, I was introduced to Wee Can Too Organic Finger Paints.

These finger paints are Edible, Organic, Dairy free, Gluten Free, and Vegan.
These finger paints are made from Fruit and Vegetable powders.

The Wee Can Too finger paints easily washed off of their little hands with soap and water. No scrubbing! We all liked that!
CJ decided that after finger painting, he would wipe his hands all over hubby's YMCA t-shirt. But with a normal washing, all of the paints can out of the shirt without staining.

We had a friend over and she and CJ played in the finger paints...

Operation Smile does amazing work

Without Operation Smile, many children would not receive the precious gift of sometimes, the most basic opportunities. Operation Smile provides much needed surgeries to children, all over the world, with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.

These children may not be able to eat, speak, or even smile. Can you imagine your child suffering? Many families cannot afford to provide surgery to their child.

Operation Smile relies on generous donations, volunteers and support for their organization. It only takes $240.00 to help provide surgery to a child with a cleft lip or cleft palate. And how amazing is it that the surgery can take only 45 minutes (or less)!

Thanks to companies like CampusBookRentals.com, Operation Smile has opportunity to help more children and young adults receive free consultations and surgeries.

CampusBookRentals.com partnered with Operation Smile in 2011. This new partnership brings a new opportunity to each child it helps. CampusBookRentals.com has committed to helping at least 1,000 children and young adults. This means 1,000 facial surgeries to help change their lives.

You can help CampusBookRentals.com meet their goal. When you rent a book, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Operation Smile.

Why would you want to rent a textbook instead of purchasing one? Well, You could pay less than half per book when renting. You don't have to pay a membership fee or even be a student to rent a textbook.

You also get 30 days for a Risk Free return if the book is not what you needed. Shipping is also free.

If you or someone you know is in need of a textbook for school, please check out CampusBookRentals.com. Not only will you [or they] get an amazing deal on textbooks, but EVERY textbook rented will help change a child's life!

We received the Mumoocie and I have to say, it's been a hit in this house. The pillow was originally sent so that I could review it. However, that turned out to not be the case.

Once the Mumoocie arrived, my 9yo son took the pillow and it was only recently that I was "allowed" to use it. He LOVES the Mumoocie. We are both side sleepers and the pillow is super comfortable.

My kids don't like cheap!

As a SAHM with 3 boys and only my hubby's income to keep us going, I do try to be frugal with my purchases. I love coupons and codes and freebies. But sometimes taking shortcuts don't always work with my kids.

For instance, haircuts at home.
Why spend $30.00 for the 3 boys when I have the same tools. Maybe not the experience but I've never made such a horrible mistake that would make them look funny.
I've cut their hair at home and I've been told [by my 2 oldest] that they would rather be grounded for a month than have me cut their hair. It's a quick trimmer on the back and scissors around the ears, how difficult is it? But I have to fight their tears and hateful faces.
I've decided not to be frugal with the haircuts anymore.

Another frugal route that has backfired on me, are buying cheap shoes.
Are boys supposed to rip apart shoes in less than 6 months? Luke & Anth have put holes in their shoes in less time than that. Now, these shoes are pretty much disposable I've decided. $10.00 at the national chain store that carries everything are just horrible. I cringe at purchasing them $60.00 or more shoes at the mall for fear of the same thing happening but I supposed you get what you pay for, right?

I have a pair of sandals that I've worn since my pregnancy with Luke, and he'll be 10 this fall! And they didn't cost more than $30.00.

My last backfired frugality moment I am going to share today is my "wanna-be" Nintendo purchase from the mall. Do you remember the original Nintendo? We still have games. They are AWESOME!
We decided one Christmas to purchase one of those "off" brands from a mall kiosk that said it was -just like- a real Nintendo. The controllers were similar, the console they had played the games. It was so cool!
We made the purchase and gave it to the boys as a combined gift. The gaming system worked for about a month. Then one controller started acting up. The buttons would stick, the plastic started moving around.  By Valentine's day, it was gone.

Trying to save money shouldn't be a comedy of errors, but sometimes it is!

There are times when I need a break from all life throws at me, especially when disasters like my above mentioned ones occur.

Want to escape too? Head on over to The Clorox Lounge,
take five minutes and and have a laugh.
You can watch videos from The Last comic Sitting, read jokes, check out funny pictures.. Regain some sanity to take on another part of the day!

Pureclinica Product Review

I have been using 2 products from the Pureclinica line for just about 2 months. I wanted to give you an update on my progress.

Pureclinica is a product from the UK. Pureclinica started in 2005 and began as a family run company. You can "meet" some of the team members on the Purclinica team here.

The 1st product I chose is called Tummy Tuck. 1 bottle of the Tummy Tuck is said to last 12 weeks [4 months] when used properly. While using this product, and with exercising and some better nutrition on my part, I have seen almost a 1/2 inch decrease in my belly area. The product states that you could lose up 1 inch while using the product during the 12 weeks. I am hoping to acheive that full 1 inch loss.

Full Product Description:
This product is ask in care product created by BABTAC registered leading skincare experts that lifts and firms the tummy region, reduces the waistline and reduces stretchmarks and wrinkles. High concentrations of Wheat protein, caffeine, fig extract, and pomegranate extract tighten, smooth and firm the area while clinically proven patented peptides reduce cellulite by up to 30%, reduces indentations by over 55% within just 4 weeks, give up to a 52% reduction in length of stretch marks, and wrinkles and skin elasticity is improved by over 60%.
Tummy Tuck is a revolutionary product designed improve the appearance of the abdominal area. The ingredients have been studied extensively and the results are well documented in clinical journals. Tummy Tuck was formulated in 2011 to be the strongest product available.

Buy It £39.99 -50ml (Approximately 12 weeks supply)

The 2nd product I have been using is the Body Sculpt and Intensive toning concentrate.
This again is a lotion that I have been using it on my arms legs, hips, and tummy. This product is supposed to help tighten the skin. I am going to concentrate more on my arms with it in the coming weeks.

Description of Product:
This product is an all over skin toning concentrate packed with patented peptides, wheat protein extract, fig extract, pomegranate extract, caffeine Triple weight Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. The natural extracts from Wheat protein, fig, and pomegranate combined with the caffeine help to tighten and tone the skin all over by reducing the fatty deposits beneath it, as though your skin is getting a workout. The patented peptides rebuild the collagen and elastin fibres beneath the surface making skin firmer, less wrinkled and looking smoother on the surface. They also help to even the skin tone and reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars by reducing hyper-pigmentation.Formulated by BABTAC registered leading skincare experts, Body Sculpt was created using only ingredients with well documented clinical trials and published results to ensure it lives up to it's promises.

Helping and caring close to home

Normally my posts are about how to give on a budget, but today is something different, something closer to home.

In light of this post, I read this morning about a Food Drive in our area.
I did not know this, but "Florida is ranked fourth in the nation for family hunger in households containing at least one child,”According to Debbi McCarthy, director of development for Feeding America Tampa Bay.
My neighbors (J, Big P, B, and Lil P) have lived next to us for just about a year. Big P does manual labor jobs like construction, or furniture moving. When they moved in, it was just 3 of them and B and my Anth became fast friends.

J was a SAHM, like me, but they were living paycheck to paycheck, but making their bills and all was livable. But soon J discovered she as pregnant and with previous RH factor issues, was scared. Big P ended up losing his job because of an emergency surgery and his Dr refusing to release him to lift more weigh that he was supposed to..

Lil P was born on his due date but not without complications. within 12 hours of birth, he was whisked to a level III NICU with the possibility of a blood transfusion and his parents were distraught to say the least. But after 19 days, he was home for New Years Eve. Big P works off and on and now J has taken to bartending at night to early mornings and then getting B off to school and taking care of lil P all day.

Easter evening, I was saying goodbye to my little brother as my neighbors pulled into their driveway. J was crying, B looked at me with just complete sadness in his eyes..They had argued all the way home, about what most married couples in this economic disaster argue about.. MONEY!

I invited B over for dessert, which he was very happy to accept. J let me know about their fight and that they had been surviving on Food Stamps and now Big P had an ultrasound to determine whether his kidneys were failing. This poor family cannot win.

Why do I tell you these thing about my neighbors.. Here's why.

With my Easter festivities wrapped up and not all of my guests arriving, I had more than enough food to share. After putting leftovers away for hubby, I still had half a ham, half a bag of rolls, 2lbs of potatoes and cookies coming out of my ears.

I asked J if she could graciously help me out by taking some of the food off my hands, I had way too much. Honestly I did. It would have gone bad in my house and ended up in the garbage. Of course she took it [with tears] because it's not the 1st time she has accepted, what she feels is charity, but what I feel is helping.

There are so many families in our own neighborhoods who experience this type of despair. There are children who go hungry every night. Elderly people who have no family, no one to share a meal with.

Hunger among lower income families, even middle class families is so much more prevalent than we all know. If you have a family, and elderly person or couple in your immediate neighborhood, someone you know or don't know, I ask you to extend a helping hand. Just once.

Give a glimmer of hope, a kindness to someone.

I received permission from a very humbled family to write this post. Per their request, I have been asked to to share the following information; "The kindness of family and neighbors have kept our spirits alive. We will always do our best to repay or pay forward however we can".
