Keeping yourself in check #healthy

I'm back !!
It's been a rough month. It began with an itch and back pain, followed by a rough diagnosis, ER Visit,  2 surgeries,  and ending with allergic reactions.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk #SylvanFightsCancer @LightTheNight #LLSLTN #spon

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post.

This fall, let’s walk to the end of cancer by joining
fundraising campaign, which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and to shine a light on finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
One group that deserves our attention is children with cancer. Leukemia is the most
common cancer in children and adolescents less than 20 years old. While extraordinary
progress has been made in blood cancer treatments, the journey back to a healthy
life can be a long one. For these kids, returning to school means additional challenges,
including maintaining friendships to keeping up with schoolwork.
Here’s how we can do it:
This year, Sylvan Learning is partnering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through
Light The Night , with a commitment to raise $250,000 and to donate more than 12,000 hours of free tutoring services in nearly 200 communities nationwide to help young blood cancer patients and their families with the transition back into academics.
You can help them to achieve these goals:
There are nearly 200 Light the Night walks nationwide this fall. It’s easy to walk
by registering and joining a team. Learn more about how LLS and Sylvan are helping young cancer patients and their families manage.
I’m going to join Light the Night with my family. Won’t you join us? Let’s all walk to the end of cancer and, at the same time, you can help kids get back into the swing of school, often while they are still undergoing treatment.

Winter has Hope ! A visit to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and sneak peek at A Dolphin Tale 2 ! @dolphintalemovie #DolphinTale2 @CMAquarium #DT2TampaCrew #spon

Disclosure: My family and I received complimentary admission to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and a movie preview as compensation.
All opinions are my own.
This weekend was super exciting for my family and I. We toured the Clearwater Marine Aquarium [CMA] with other Tampa Bay Bloggers, as Ambassadors for the new movie Dolphin Tale 2.
We all gathered together and listened to David Yates, the CEO and Director of the CMA tell us about what the Aquarium does, how it helps the animals, as well as helping children and Veterans.
If you don't know the Story about Winter the Dolphin, let me catch you up...
Winter was rescued on the East Coast of Florida. A fishing line had wrapped around her tail flukes and unfortunately, Winter's tail could not be saved.
Winter has a prosthetic tail with a complete fluke, actually, she's had a couple as they have grown with her and changed over time.

Lesson Learned - Emergency Room turns into a Hospital Stay

I've learned a difficult lesson this week and learned too listen to my BFF when she says to go to the Dr. She is a nurse, but I'm a horrible patient.

My "I think I have the flu" turned into an Abdominal Sono, Emergency MRI and appointment with a local GI. I never made it to that appointment
It turns out my Gall Bladder was mad at me and released stones that obstructed my bile duct causing my liver enzymes to elevate.

I couldn't keep anything but clear liquids down and a tell tale sign of bad things to come was the itching. The bottom of my feet and my palms would itch all day and at night, my whole body would itch. I quickly learned that the itching would not be curbed by anything at all !
Post-op Surgery Day 1

Sunday sent me to the emergency room with back pain so severe that all I could do was cry. Within 3-4 hours of my arrival, I had surgery #1. Stones were removed and the surgery was relatively easy. I had no outside wounds that would show I had any surgery.
That would soon change.
Pre-op Surgery day 2 - Delayed :(

Monday I had my Gall Bladder and all the lovely little stones it had created, removed. The surgery is called Cholecystectomy. It's the removal of the gall bladder performed with laparoscopy.
4 lovely incisions, my battle scars.
So now I rest and wait to heal. No lifting, no running, and while I had already begun this before getting ill, a low-fat diet.
This is not something to mess with. People often live with Gall Bladder issues and treat it with diet. But when you mess around and stones obstruct important passageways, your body gets MAD !!!
Take care of your body and if something isn't right, listen to your body and head to your Dr. It took ne a couple extra days to get there, but I am grateful and glad I went when I did.

Swim on over and check out the Dolphin Tale 2 Featurette with Gavin DeGraw [ iTunes Song Giveaway ] #spon

Just recently I received word that I was one of several bloggers chosen to be a part of the 2014 Dolphin Tale 2 Blogger Crew!  Winter the Dolphin is an inspiration to quite a number of people and the first movie "A Dolphin Tale" was a great success.
My family and I have visited the Clearwater Marine Aquarium on several occasions. We love learning about how our area helps the Marine Life that they come in contact with.
Anthony is especially excited when we head to the CMA because he loves any and all creatures.. He says the dolphins swim with such majesty. Yes, I was impressed that my 8 year old described the dolphins that way !
We've been watching the preview trailer we received and my boys are excited because we are going to see a SNEAK PEEK of A Dolphin Tale 2 this weekend !!
We're blessed to be able to share the new Featurette with Gavin DeGraw from the Dolphin Tale 2 movie featuring Winter and Hope !
Don't you just love this song?! It's so inspiring !!!
Want to win an iTunes download of Gavin DeGraw's "You Got Me"?
Leave a comment letting me know if you've seen A Dolphin's Tale, Excited for the September 12th Release of a Dolphin's Tale 2, or any other tidbit about dolphins you'd like to share.
I will choose a winner on Saturday evening (8/16/14)..

Putting #FirstThingsFirst - Dating Your Mate! Enter to win a Prize Pack #spon #giveaway

Disclosure: I received compensation for promotion of the material written below. All opinions are mine.
First Things First (FTF) is an award winning not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening families.
We spend so much time connected online, that often we forget to connect with our loved ones and family.
I watched and chose my favorite FTF video, which is "Dating Your Mate". Hubby and I try to have a date night once a month. It's not always easy to escape our 3 precious boys, especially during the school year, but it's something we feel strongly about.
Our date nights have included activities such movies, dinner, baseball games, and even just shopping without the kids. We've even ran a couple of 5k's without them !

Stainless Steel Measuring Cups 6 Piece By KitchenMade™ #measuringcups #spon

I love to bake and cook. I find that my kids are wanting to help more.
Baking for me, requires precise measuring.
The KitchenMade™ measuring cups are exactly what we needed to get our baking done !

These cups are sturdy and wonderful. The handles are not flimsy at all. They are easy to clean and easy to store. I like that even though the bottom is flat, the edges are rounded. My kids were able to use these easily as well.
